Water is at the core of sustainable development and central to achieving social, environmental and economical sustainability on our planet. Many initiatives of the organizations invited for this session link to water and actively contribute to the 2030 Agenda, the Climate Agenda and other related global agendas. For example, the SDG ‘Wedding Cake’ puts water at its basis, the Global Centre of Adaptation recently released its Water Actions Track, the World Economic Forum indicates water as one of the main risks (along with water-related risks) in its Global Risk Report for years, and the UN High Level Panel on Water initiated the Valuing Water Leadership Coalition.
Collaboration is key to increase the impact of such initiatives and to reach the goals that we have set for 2030. How can we strengthen our collaboration to increase the visibility and impact we make with water as a central theme? And by doing so, how can we enhance the recognition of water being vital to almost all that we do?
In this session we want to explore how to link up agendas of events, initiatives and how we can sequence dialogues at events to improve collaboration and effectiveness. What can we do individually and where do we convene what we have done to increase our impact? In addition, how can we better work together in light of upcoming events such as WEF Davos 2020, Singapore International Water Week 2020, Stockholm International Water Week 2020, the WBCSD Council Meeting 2020, GCA Summit 2020 and EXPO 2020 in Dubai? What does it take to operationalize our ambition to collaborate around shared theme’s such as the value of water and achieving the SDG’s?
Finally, we recognize that the involvement of youth is essential for reaching our goals. Hence, an important question to address is how we can convene our youth networks. It is their future we decide about. Sending along youth representatives is welcomed!
