Session: Water scarcity and related risks: challenges for companies and investors
Theme: Integrating water and resources management
Organiser: Deltares
Other organisations: Kimberly-Clark, De Nederlandse Bank (DNB), Western Cape Government (South Africa)
The challenges related to water scarcity are dealt with at different levels, whether it is at the local level in a water stressed basin, at the multinational level, or at the macro-economic level. Recently, water scarcity risks have become increasingly visible in the media, but also companies and investors are beginning to invest and develop projects around the topic of water risks and stewardship. In this workshop, we want to discuss how companies and investors are currently dealing with water scarcity risks, how they predict to deal with them in the future and what that means for their needs with respect to data, information, knowledge and collaboration. We will also discuss how we can bridge the gap between the different ‘worlds’ (local governments, businesses and investors) to increase the mutual understanding of the impact of water scarcity and jointly seek for solutions to reduce that impact. The output of the workshop will produce an article to be published in relevant international professional magazines and internet platforms.
